Public Invited to make inputs on Parks Master Plan Print

Four Ekurhuleni regional parks are set to receive major face lifts after the Ekurhuleni Metropolitan Municipality identified the need to upgrade the parks to provide high quality sports and recreation facilities.

The metro has appointed a professional landscape architect company, Red Landscape Architects, to assist with the compilation of master plans for the upgrading of Boksburg Lake, Germiston Lake, President Park in Springs and Dries Niemandt Park in Kempton Park.

“Some of the issues that the appointed company has to investigate and provide recommendations on includes the erection of kiosk and take away outlets, recreational facilities (miniature train track and station, games hall, putt-putt course, skate board rink, children’s playground equipment, etc), park furniture, shelters, public ablution facilities; disabled persons’ friendly facilities; crowd control, road network, parking, etc; safety and security etc” explains council spokesperson Zweli Dlamini.

Dlamini further explains that since the mentioned parks are pubic facilities the metro has to take suggestions and concerns from local residents so that all views are considered before the master plans are finalized. “We are therefore calling on community members, interest groups, local organizations and even ward councilors and ward committee members to participate in this process that is aimed at ensuring that in all our three regions we have regional parks that every one can be proud of.”
