Ekurhuleni's Load Shedding Schedules (May - July 2008)

Ekurhuleni is now entering phase 2 of the Eskom National Emergency Plan. The power-rationing phase will extend until July 2008. "Planned" load shedding will now be termed "scheduled" load shedding. Eskom is forced to enter into scheduled load shedding due to the fact that the commercial and residential sector have not yet saved the requested 10% in consumption.

Ekurhuleni carefully prepared new load shedding schedules that include all customers, allowing you to plan for when your power will be switched off. For planned load shedding, there is a Schedule A (Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday) and a Schedule B (Monday, Wednesday and Friday). You will be switched off every second day, once a day, between the hours of 08:00 to 16:30 and 18:00 to 22:30, for a maximum of 2½ hours each time.

When Eskom enters an abnormal condition on any day (including Sundays), Schedule A and B areas will be combined for the total period that the abnormal condition exists. When an emergency situation is reached, Eskom will control the load shedding according to the load reduction required and the planned shedding schedules will no longer be applicable.

The schedules are not prepared for a specific month of the year and only major commercial named townships are listed. Customers should identify their respective suburbs within the townships listed. Where customers are not shed in their respective time block and area, it may be due to overlapping of the electricity networks and once load shedding is experienced, customers will be in a position to identify their area on the schedule. All efforts are made to effect load shedding according to the schedules provided and where power outages are experienced outside the time blocks, customers be part of an unplanned outage. In these cases, please contact 011-458-3000 or your local Customer Care Centre .
