The Ekurhuleni Metropolitan Municipality wishes to notify residents and sporting bodies in the region of the closure of Boksburg North Swimming pool over the winter months.
“From May 1 to August 31, the facility will regrettably be closed due
to the water temperature being too cold,” explains spokesperson of the
metro, Zweli Dlamini. “The temperature requirement for indoor swimming
pools is 26 degrees Celsius throughout the year, while the temperature
at this facility is 18 degrees Celsius due to some technical glitches.”
The metro recently appointed consultants to investigate and analyse the
capacity and effectiveness of the water heaters, as well as the air
conditioning system at the pool. A decision on whether to repair or
completely replace the systems will be taken based on the reports
presented to council, and implementation of recommendations will
probably be carried out in the next financial year, which starts at the
beginning of July, explains Dlamini.
The Boksburg North Swimming pool is the only covered public pool in the
region, and the only one which operates in the winter months. Since
2002 the metro has spent a great deal of time and money in ensuring
that the facility operates at optimum standards.
“Some of the work done includes the extension and upgrading of the
ladies change rooms, computerisation of turnstiles, painting of
building, sealing and painting of roof, upgrading of filter plant,
installation of heat blankets and new lane ropes,” explains Dlamini.
Dlamini apologises for the inconvenience this development will cause
but promises that council will continue to strive towards better
service delivery of services and facilities in the region.
